inspiring depression

In my opinion, this is a majestic and inspiring song. I am not sure if I am being objective but in the album this song stands out as simply beautiful. I will not ruin it by commenting or over interpreting it. Just enjoy…. (10/10)

Queens of the Stone Age…Like Clockwork

A "typical rockstar" is an oxymoron by definition; because you have to be marginal and sensational to be a rockstar. Yet the self-confidence and charisma combined with his simplicity make Josh Homme a typical star. Although this "typical" definition of Homme in the introduction sounds like a negative spin, I absolutely loved "…Like Clockwork" album and I think the mainstream critiques are underrating (70 - 80%) it.

The depressive sound is very unique, entire album has a focused - bold theme, lyrics are very strong and there are several masterpieces such as "I Appear Missing" and "Fairweather Friends". Some songs are so powerful, in my opinion the absence of Elton John or Dave Grohl would make no difference in the final product; thus it is evidently vital for marketing purposes.

The number of copies sold (90,000+) in the first week itself expresses the commercial success of this album; therefore, another review concluding how good the album is probably redundant. So let me finish the review concentrating on certain negativities. Firstly, the use of coarse 'sounds/noise' in the opening of the album is just another effort with no meaning for the listener. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc. used trippy sounds and they used the raw sounds right and I do not think, nowadays 'shattering glass sounds or whispering ghosts' are making rock albums any better. Also, the "post-health scare" of Homme has been stressed so many times, it almost rationalized the emotions of the lyrics.

Overall, if you are looking for something dark, pithy and addictive, then go for "…Like Clockwork". It is a masterpiece and it will be a classic. Today is the first year anniversary of album's release and after one year I am enjoying it even more.
